In 1841, he is living at Littlechild cottages, aged 20 with his parents and siblings.
In 1851, he can be found in Kelvedon Hatch at Dodds Farm, with his wife Elizabeth and first son John. He is a farmer of 50 acres employing 3 men. There is also a servant Eliza Harvey, aged 13 living in.
By 1861, John is a Farmer employing 5 men at Kelvedon Farm, Kelvedon Hatch - he now has built up a large part of his family, plus a kitchen maid , Susan Gosling, aged 14 and a visitor , William King, born in Barking, and aged 40.
By 1871 they appear to have left the area, and his wife next shows up in the 1881 census, a widow. Dodds Farm now has a new Farm Bailiff, George Barnes living there.
In 1871, the family name is listed as Littlechilds (note the s), and living in Wellesley Street, Brentwood. John is a Hay Carter

John married Elizabeth Cumbers, daughter of Yeoman George Cumbers and Susanna, in 1847 in St Dunstan, Stepney. (Elizabeth Cumbers was born in 1828 in South Weald and was christened on 11 May 1828 in Doddinghurst.)
